At our November meeting, Clive Ruggles will give a talk titled “Archaeoastronomy: a brief history”.
Professor Clive Ruggles is a Professor of Archaeoastronomy at the
University of Leicester. He has spent a lifetime investigating ancient
people’s perceptions of the sky and the uses they make of what they see
there.
Prof Ruggles has ongoing projects in Hawaii, Peru and the UK. He won a
lifetime award from the Royal Astronomical Society in 2017. He advises
governments on potential World Heritage nominations relating to
astronomy, and serves on the IAU’s Working Group on Star Names and
the IUCN’s Dark Skies Advisory Group.
The Meeting will start at 7.45pm. The hall doors are open from 7:00pm and members are welcome to attend from this time to assist, set up the hall and socialise.
