At the May meeting, Affelia Wibisono will give a talk titled “X-raying the Solar System”.

Affelia Wibisono is an experienced and informed science communicator, specialising in astronomy.

They have recently completed a PhD at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory, using observations by space telescopes and spacecraft, such as XMM-Newton, the Hubble Space Telescope, and Juno to investigate how and why Jupiter produces intense X-ray aurorae.

With a vast portfolio, from writing for the Guardian and NASA, to TV interviews with Five News and Sky News, to performing at festivals including Cheltenham Science Festival and Camp Bestival, Affelia is often called upon to communicate complex theories in an entertaining and digestible manner, using their scientific knowledge and science communication expertise to educate, engage and enthuse everyone in astronomy from toddlers, to grandparents to school groups.

The Meeting will start at 7.45pm. The hall doors are open from 7:00pm and members are welcome to attend from this time to assist, set up the hall and socialise.
